Costanti miglioramenti per i piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing nei test di Phillip Island
Con i due giorni di test ufficiali di Phillip Island si è conclusa la marcia di avvicinamento del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing al primo round del campionato mondiale Supersport, che vivrà il suo primo round questo weekend sulla pista australiana.
Sono state due giornate molto positive per i due piloti Hikari Okubo e Lucas Mahias, che hanno lavorato assieme ai rispettivi staff tecnici all’assetto delle loro Ninja ZX-6R.
Nella giornata di ieri si sono svolte due sessioni di prove, la prima delle quali si è conclusa con Okubo (1’34”584) quinto, proprio davanti al compagno di squadra Mahias (1’34”807). Nel turno pomeridiano il francese si è migliorato di quasi sei decimi ed ha terminato la giornata al quarto posto con il tempo di 1’34”222. Okubo invece non ha abbassato il suo crono del mattino, andando ad occupare la sesta posizione.
Questa mattina i due piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing ed i loro tecnici, hanno proseguito il lavoro che era stato programmato. Mahias ha ulteriormente migliorato il suo best lap, fermando i cronometri sul tempo di 1’33”872, terminando la prima sessione ancora al quarto posto. Anche Okubo ha abbassato il suo tempo sul giro ed il crono di 1’34”374 gli è valso il decimo posto.
Nella seconda e conclusiva sessione del pomeriggio, anche a causa di un forte vento, Mahias (1’33”892) non ha migliorato per pochi decimi il tempo che aveva fatto segnare in mattinata ed ha concluso le prove al sesto posto. Al contrario Okubo ha invece abbassato il suo best lap della prima sessione. Un giro in 1’34’135 gli ha permesso di piazzarsi proprio alle spalle del suo compagno di squadra, al settimo posto assoluto.
Al termine dei test invernarli e di queste due giornate di prove ufficiali australiane, il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing è ora pronto per affrontare il primo appuntamento con il mondiale Supersport, che si disputerà a partire da venerdì 22 febbraio sempre sul circuito di Phillip Island.

Lucas Mahias: “E’ stata una giornata difficile per me, nella quale ho lavorato molto per migliorare la moto e per cercare di capirla meglio. E’ un lavoro che ho iniziato da poco tempo ma posso già dire di essere molto felice di poter lavorare con questo team e con questi tecnici che non mi fanno mai mancare il loro supporto. Mi spiace non essere più avanti nella classifica dei tempi, magari in una delle prime tre posizioni, ma in fondo sono test e quindi non assegnano punti per il campionato. Penso che il setup della mia moto non sia ancora perfetto per Phillip Island, ma sono fiducioso per la gara che sarà tutta un’altra cosa rispetto ai test”.

Hikari Okubo: “Non sono completamente soddisfatto perché sono solo al settimo posto, ma il mio tempo sul giro non è male. Lo scorso anno ho girato in 1’34.8 mentre ora ho fatto segnare un crono di 1’34.1 e quindi ho fatto un netto miglioramento. Mi aspetto una gara difficile domenica perché le gomme dopo cinque o sei giri iniziano a scivolare. Il mio miglior giro con le gomme nuove è stato in 1’34”1 ed il mio secondo è stato in 1’34”2. Sono contento di essere stato molto costante. Mi sarebbe piaciuto migliorarmi maggiormente in questi due giorni di prove, ma non ci sono riuscito. Ora avremo due giorni di riposo e poi potrò dare il massimo nel weekend di gara. La mia sensazione è che non tutto sia ancora perfettamente a posto, ma sono comunque ottimista e fiducioso”.

Constant improvement for the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team at the Phillip Island test
The Kawasaki Puccetti Racing team concludes its preparation ahead of the opening round of the Supersport world championship round, set to take place at the Phillip Island track this weekend, with a two-day official test session.
The two days have proved positive for riders Hikari Okubo and Lucas Mahias, who worked hard with their respective technicians to set up their Ninja ZX-6R bikes.
The team completed the first two sessions yesterday, Okubo (1’34”584) finished in fifth place just ahead of team-mate Mahias (1’34”807). The afternoon session saw the Frenchman improve by almost six tenths, to finish fourth with a best time of 1’34”222, while Okubo failed to improve on his morning’s best, rounding out the day in sixth position.
This morning, the two Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders continued the scheduled work with the team’s technical staff. Mahias further improve on his best time, stopping the clock on 1’33”872 and closing the session in fourth position. Okubo also lowered his time, a 1’34”374 earning him tenth place.
Strong winds during the second and final session of the day prevented Mahias (1’33”892) from improving on his earlier time, meaning that he concluded the test in overall sixth place. Okubo meanwhile was able to pick up the pace, setting a 1’34’135 that placed him right behind his team-mate, in seventh place, at the end of the two days.
Winter testing now complete, the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing is ready for the first round of the Supersport world championship, which will get underway at the Phillip Island circuit as of Friday 22 February.

Lucas Mahias: “A difficult day for me and I worked a lot during the test to improve the bike and to understand it more. Again, it is early for me in this project but I am very happy with my team and my crew because they are working a lot. I am a little bit sorry because I am not in the top position or the top three. It is a test, so no points for this. I think the bike is maybe not best suited to Phillip Island but I am confident for the race because it will be really different to the test.”

Hikari Okubo: “I am not happy because I am in seventh position but my lap time is not so bad. It was 1’34.8 last year and now I set a 1’34.1, so that is a big step, I think. I expect a hard race on Sunday because the tyre is spinning a lot after five or six laps. My best lap with a new tyre was a 1’34.1 and my second best lap was 1’34.2. I feel happy in my consistency. I wanted to make more of a step, but I could not during this two-day test. With two days off I will push hard again on race weekend. My feeling right now is that things are not perfect, but I feel very positive.”
