Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Allenamento vincente al Mugello CIV

Il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing è stato impegnato in questo weekend all’Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello, disputando il primo round del CIV, Campionato Italiano Velocità. I tre piloti della squadra di Manuel Puccetti hanno disputato le prove e le gare della classe Superbike (Lucas Mahias) e Supersport (Can Oncu e Philipp Oettl). Per i piloti ed il team si è trattato di un ottimo allenamento, in preparazione al primo round dei mondiali Superbike e Supersport che prenderanno il via a fine maggio al Motorland Aragon in Spagna. Gareggiando con le stesse moto del mondiale, al Mugello i tre piloti hanno corso fuori classifica, senza accumulare punti e senza poter quindi salire sul podio.
Dopo le prove libere del venerdì mattina, i tre hanno disputato le due sessioni di qualifica: le Q1 il venerdì pomeriggio e le Q2 il sabato mattina. Nella classifica cumulativa delle qualifiche Superbike Mahias ha chiuso in prima posizione con il tempo di 1’50”583. Primo posto anche per Oettl che in Supersport ha fermato i cronometri sul tempo di 1’53”158, mentre Oncu, alla sua prima gara dopo l’incidente automobilistico (nel quale si era ferito al braccio destro) ha ottenuto la terza posizione, con il crono di 1’53”743.
Il primo a scendere in pista per la gara di sabato è stato Mahias. Scattato subito al comando, il francese ha condotto in testa dal primo all’ultimo giro. Nessuno è riuscito a tenere il suo ritmo, e Lucas ha quindi tagliato per primo il traguardo con un vantaggio di circa tre secondi sul secondo classificato. In Supersport invece è stato Oettl a partire fortissimo allo spegnersi del semaforo, ed a portarsi subito in prima posizione. L’unico in grado di restare vicino al pilota tedesco è stato Fuligni, a sua volta wild card in queste gare del Mugello CIV. Oncu invece ha lottato nel gruppo di sei piloti immediatamente alle spalle dei due battistrada. Philipp restava in testa per tutti i quattordici giri e si aggiudicava la vittoria. Il giovane pilota turco invece, dopo essersi scambiato di continuo la posizione con i propri avversari, nel finale accusava un dolore al braccio infortunato a gennaio, e si doveva accontentare della quinta posizione finale.
Domenica mattina i tre piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing sono stati impegnati nel warm up e purtroppo Oncu è stato vittima di una caduta, che ha danneggiato la sua Kawasaki. Grazie al lavoro dei tecnici del team Can ha potuto prendere il via nella seconda gara del weekend.
La seconda gara della Superbike è stata dominata da Mahias che è scattato bene al via, ed ha girato su tempi insostenibili per i suoi avversari. In pochi giri il francese ha accumulato un notevole vantaggio che gli ha consentito di andare a vincere indisturbato. Esattamente come ha fatto Oettl nella gara della Supersport. Il tedesco è stato in testa dal primo all’ultimo giro ed ha vinto davanti a Fuligni e a Oncu. Il giovane turco è stato più veloce rispetto a ieri ed è rimasto costantemente vicino ai primi due.
Per il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing il prossimo appuntamento con la pista è fissato al Motorland Aragon per il primo round dei Campionati Mondiali Superbike e Supersport dal 21 al 23 maggio.

“E’ stato un ottimo weekend per tutta la squadra. Abbiamo fatto quello che un team che corre nel mondiale deve fare quando partecipa al Campionato Italiano ed utilizza le moto del mondiale : conquistare pole e vittorie. Purtroppo al di la dei risultati positivi, abbiamo avuto la conferma definitiva che Mahias ha un problema al braccio destro che verrà risolto in settimana con un piccolo intervento. Anche Oncu dovrà sottoporsi ad alcuni controlli, al fine di accertare se il braccio destro, gravemente ferito nell’incidente stradale del quale è stato vittima a gennaio, potrà essere curato o se dovrà invece sottoporsi ad un eventuale intervento chirurgico. Tutti problemi che contiamo di risolvere prima dell’appuntamento di fine maggio al Motorland Aragon con i mondiali Superbike e Supersport. Oettl ha dimostrato di essere in perfetta forma e già pronto per il mondiale, ma posso dire che tutto il team ha lavorato al meglio ed è stato un allenamento importante, perché non c’è nulla di meglio di una gara per prepararsi al mondiale. Tornare al CIV è stato molto bello e per noi è sempre come tornare a casa. Per questo voglio ringraziare la Federazione Motociclistica Italiana che ci ha permesso di essere presenti a questo primo round”.

“Quella di sabato è stata una gara complicata anche a causa del dolore al braccio che mi ha limitato. Ho perso il gruppo dei primi due ed ho lottato con gli inseguitori, ma
mi sono divertito. Domenica sono caduto nel warm up ed ho danneggiato la moto. Per fortuna non mi sono fatto nulla ed i miei tecnici sono stati bravissimi e sono riusciti a sistemare la mia Kawasaki in tempo per la gara, nella quale mi sono sentito meglio rispetto a ieri, tanto che ho girato più forte. Devo ancora migliorare sotto certi aspetti, per poter sfruttare tutto il potenziale della mia moto, ma lo faremo nel primo round del mondiale. Grazie al mio team per il grande supporto che mi ha dato qui al Mugello”.

“Le qualifiche sono andate molto bene ed in gara mi sono divertito. E’ stato un ottimo allenamento anche perché sono tornato a provare l’adrenalina della gara, ed anche il team è tornato a lavorare con lo stress e lo spirito della competizione, e questo ci sarà molto utile per il primo round del mondiale. Nella gara di sabato ho impiegato alcuni giri per trovare il ritmo giusto, anche perché c’era un vento forte e fastidioso. Poi però ho trovato il mio passo e sono riuscito a staccare i miei avversari. Domenica le cose sono andate ancora meglio. Ho trovato subito un feeling ancora migliore con la mia moto e sono riuscito a tenere un ritmo più alto per tutta la gara. Al di la del risultato sono molto contento di aver corso queste due gare e penso di essere pronto per l’inizio del mondiale”.

“Quella di sabato è stata la mia prima gara in Superbike. Certo non era il mondiale, ma devo dire che qui al CIV il livello è molto alto. Mi sono divertito e mi sono trovato davvero a mio agio sulla moto. Il mio obiettivo primario era quello di continuare ad adattare il mio stile di guida alla Superbike, ed il poterlo fare in gara è stata una cosa molto utile ed importante. Il Mugello era una pista completamente nuova per me, e mi è piaciuta molto. In entrambe le gare ho potuto conoscere meglio la mia moto e mi sono migliorato costantemente, sia in gara che in prova. Ora non vedo l’ora che inizi il mondiale Superbike. Voglio ringraziare la mia squadra che mi sta aiutando molto”.

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – A winning training session at Mugello CIV

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing was on track at the Autodromo Internazionale del Mugello this weekend, taking part in the first round of the Italian CIV championship. Manuel Puccetti’s three riders competed in the Superbike (Lucas Mahias) and Supersport practices and races (Can Oncu and Philipp Oettl). The weekend served as a constructive training session, in preparation for the first round of the Superbike and Supersport championships which will take place in late May at Motorland Aragón in Spain. Racing with the same bikes they will use in the world championship, the riders could not be classified and so did not score points or have the opportunity to take to the podium.
Following Friday morning’s free practice, the trio took part in the two qualifying sessions, Q1 on Friday afternoon and Q2 on Saturday morning. In the combined Superbike classification, Mahias finished first with a time of 1’50”583. Oettl also closed first, setting a best of 1’53”158, while Oncu, back riding for the first time since his car accident (in which he hurt his right arm), scored third place with a fastest time of 1’53”743.
The first to head out and race on Saturday was Mahias. Getting away from pole, the Frenchman led from start to finish. No one was able to keep pace with him and Lucas crossed the line with roughly a three second advantage over the second placed rider. In Supersport it was Oettl who got off the line quickest, immediately taking the lead. The only rider able to stick close to the German was Fuligni, another wildcard entry in these Mugello races. Oncu meanwhile battled as part of a group of six riders, positioned just behind the two leaders. Philipp held the lead for the entire fourteen-lap race to cross the line first, while the young Turk, having alternated positions with his rivals, struggled in the final phases when his injured arm started to hurt, which meant he ultimately finished the race in fifth place.
Sunday morning saw the three Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders take to the track for the warm-up sessions but unfortunately Oncu suffered a crash that damaged his Kawasaki. His team worked hard on the bike so that the young Turkish rider was able to compete in race two as planned.
The second Superbike race was dominated by Mahias who got away well and set lap times that his rivals simply couldn’t match. After just a few laps, the Frenchman had built up a significant advantage that meant he went undisturbed as he rode on to victory. Oettl then did exactly the same in the Supersport race. The German led from start to finish and won the race ahead of Fuligni and Oncu. The Turk was quicker than yesterday and remained close behind the two frontrunners.
Kawasaki Puccetti Racing will return to the track over the weekend of 21-23 May, when it will compete in the opening round of the Superbike and Supersport world championships at Motorland Aragón in Spain.

“It’s been an excellent weekend for the entire team. We did what a team racing in the world championship should do when it competes in the Italian series with world championship bikes: score pole and win races. Unfortunately, beyond the strong results, we’ve realised that Mahias does have a problem with his right arm, which he will resolve this week with a small surgery. And Oncu also needs more check-ups to see whether his right arm, badly injured during the road accident he was involved in back in January, needs further treatment or perhaps surgery. All issues that we hope to resolve before the first Superbike and Supersport world championship rounds in late May. Oettl has proved to be in a great shape and is already ready to compete, but I can say that the whole team has worked hard and that this has been a constructive training exercise, because there is no better preparation for a championship than a race. It’s been great to return to CIV, it’s like a homecoming each time. And so I want to thank the Italian Motorcycling Federation for having allowed us to participate in this opening round”.

“Saturday’s race was a complicated one, also due to the pain in my arm which limited me. I lost contact with the leading pair and battled with the chasing group, and it was fun. On Sunday I crashed in warm-up and damaged the bike. Luckily, I was unhurt and my technicians were amazing, fixing my Kawasaki in time. In the race, I felt better than yesterday and lapped faster. I still need to improve in certain areas to exploit the bike’s full potential, but we’ll do so during the opening round. I want to thank my team for their support here at Mugello”.

“Qualifying went very well and I had fun in the races. It’s been a good training exercise because there’s the adrenaline of the racing and the team is back working with all the stress and the spirit of races, and this will be very useful ahead of the opening round. In Saturday’s race, I spent a few laps getting into the right rhythm, also because there was a strong wind which was bothering me. But then I found a strong pace and was able to break away from my rivals. On Sunday things went better. I immediately found very good feeling with my bike and was able to maintain a strong pace for the entire race. Beyond the result itself, I’m very happy to have completed two races and think I’m ready for the world championship”.

“Saturday’s race was my first in Superbike. It’s not the world championship of course, but I have to say that the CIV level is very high. I’ve had fun and felt very comfortable on the bike. My main aim was to continue to adapt my style to the Superbike and to be able to do so during a race has been useful and significant. Mugello was a brand-new track for me, and I really like it. In both races, I was able to get to know the bike better and I constantly improved, both in the races and in practice. Now I can’t wait for the world championship to begin. I want to thank my team for all their help”.
