Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – In Australia due giornate di test ufficiali aprono la stagione 2020
Il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing è in Australia e più precisamente sul circuito di Phillip Island, ad oltre 100 km dalla città di Melbourne, per disputare due giorni di prove libere il 24 e 25 febbraio, e a seguire il primo round dei campionati Mondiali Superbike e Supersport, dal 28 febbraio al 1 marzo.
Durante l’inverno la squadra di Manuel Puccetti ha lavorato molto e scrupolosamente, per essere pronta per questi due importanti appuntamenti, che segnano l’inizio della stagione agonistica 2020.
Al lavoro di sviluppo svolto sulle Kawasaki ZX-6R e ZX-10RR hanno fatto seguito numerose giornate di prove sulle piste di Jerez, Valencia (solo Supersport) e Portimao.
Le due più importanti novità di questa stagione sono rappresentate dai nuovi piloti Philip Oettl e Xavi Fores, che gareggeranno rispettivamente in Supersport e Superbike.
Il pilota tedesco, proveniente dalla Moto2, sarà il compagno di squadra del confermato Lucas Mahias. Nei test invernali Philipp è stato subito molto veloce ed ha dimostrato di aver trovato un buon feeling con la sua nuova moto e con i tecnici del team.
Xavi Fores ha sfruttato le prove di novembre e di gennaio per prendere confidenza con la sua Ninja, una moto completamente diversa da quelle che lo spagnolo ha utilizzato sino ad ora.
Per entrambi c’è ancora del lavoro da svolgere nelle due giornate di test ufficiali del 24 e 25 prossimi. Dopo un fisiologico periodo di adattamento alla sua Kawasaki, lo scorso anno Mahias è stato autore di un fantastico finale di campionato, tanto che nelle ultime sei gare è sempre salito sul podio collezionando due vittorie, un secondo e tre terzi posti. Quest’anno, nonostante un infortunio al dito mignolo della mano destra che ne ha limitato il rendimento nei test invernali, Lucas parte con i favori del pronostico ed è pronto a lottare per il titolo sin dalle prime gare.
“Abbiamo lavorato molto per tutto l’inverno, svolgendo numerose sessioni di test – ha commentato il team Principal Manuel Puccetti – Ci siamo concentrati in particolar modo su freni, sospensioni e motore. Le nostre Supersport sono migliorate molto, mentre in Superbike la nostra Ninja è stata aggiornata con i nuovi materiali che abbiamo ricevuto dalla Kawasaki. Di conseguenza affrontiamo questi ultimi test con molto ottimismo e l’obiettivo di trovare una buona base di lavoro per affrontare il primo round della stagione. Le prestazioni di Oettl sono state molto soddisfacenti, mentre per quanto riguarda Fores lui sa di poter spingere di più, ma giustamente non ha voluto rischiare molto durante le prove, confermandosi un esperto professionista. Assieme al team Orelac quest’anno abbiamo creato uno junior team, che ha l’obiettivo di far crescere un altro giovane e talentuoso pilota: Can Oncu. E’ il quarto pilota turco per noi, dopo Kenan Sofuoglu, Toprak Razgatlioglu e Bahattin Sofuoglu. Nei test ha già dimostrato un talento notevole, ma dovrà adattarsi alla classe 600, modificando il suo stile di guida. Lo seguiremo da vicino senza mettergli pressione, essendo al suo primo anno in Supersport”.
Il circuito di Phillip Island si trova in Australia, in prossimità della località di Ventnor, nella regione Victoria. E’ stato costruito nel 1956 e la sua pista è lunga 4.445 metri. E’ un tracciato molto spettacolare, dove si susseguono ampie curve, interrotte solo da due tornantini. Il rettilineo d’arrivo lungo 835 metri è in discesa, e fa spesso registrare velocità massime molto elevate. Ospita le gare del campionato mondiale Superbike ininterrottamente dal 1990, fatta eccezione per il 1993. La pole position è a destra ed è dotato di 12 curve delle quali 5 sono a destra e 7 a sinistra.

Two official test days in Australia open Kawasaki Puccetti Racing’s 2020 season
Kawasaki Puccetti Racing is in Australia or, more specifically, at the Phillip Island track, located more than 100km from the city of Melbourne, for a two-day test session on 24 and 25 February, followed by the first round of the Superbike and Supersport world championships, from 28 February to 1 March.
During the winter, Manuel Puccetti’s team has worked hard to be ready for these two important events, which mark the start of the 2020 racing season.
Work to develop the Kawasaki ZX-6R and ZX-10RR bikes has been ongoing, involving numerous test sessions at the tracks of Jerez, Valencia (Supersport only) and Portimao. The main changes this season are represented by new riders Philipp Oettl and Xavi Forés, who will compete in Supersport and Superbike respectively.
The German rider, who moves from Moto2, will be team-mate to the reconfirmed Lucas Mahias. During winter testing, Philipp was immediately very fast and proved to have good feeling with his new bike and the team’s technicians.
Xavi Forés made the most of November and January test days, building confidence with his Ninja, a new bike for him with respect to what he’s ridden in the past.
Both riders still have work to do over the upcoming 24-25 February test days. Once he had adapted to his Kawasaki, Mahias proved particularly strong in the final part of the championship, reaching the podium in the last six races to score two wins, a second place and three third-place finishes. This year, despite an injury to his right little finger limiting his performance during winter testing, Lucas starts as one of the favourites and is more than ready to fight for the title right from the outset.
“We’ve worked hard all winter, completing many test sessions – commented Team Principal Manuel Puccetti – We have focused particularly on the brakes, suspension and engine. Our Supersport bikes have improved greatly, while in Superbike our Ninja has been updated with the new materials we’ve received from Kawasaki. As a result, we are optimistic as we head into these tests and will work to find a good base with which to take on the season-opener. Oettl’s performance has been very positive, while Forés knows he can push more, but has understandably not wanted to take any risks during testing, which proves his maturity. Together with team Orelac, we have created a junior team this year, which will help develop another young and talented rider: Can Oncu. He’s the fourth Turk after Kenan Sofuoglu, Toprak Razgatlioglu and Bahattin Sofuoglu. He has already demonstrated his considerable talent, but now he must adapt to the 600 class, modifying his riding style. We’ll follow him closely without pressuring him, seeing as this is his first year in Supersport”.
The Phillip Island circuit is situated in Australia, in the vicinity of Ventnor in the state of Victoria. Built in 1956, the track is 4445 metres long. It is a spectacular track, its numerous turns interrupted only by two hairpins. The downhill start/finish straight is 835 metres long, allowing riders to reach very high speeds. The Superbike world championship has visited the Australian circuit every year since 1990, with the exception of 1993. Pole position is to the right, the track comprising 12 turns, 5 right-handers and 7 left-handers.
