Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Mahias vince la gara WorldSSP di Magny Cours!
Cielo soleggiato e pista asciutta all’autodromo Nevers Magny-Cours in Francia per la decima gara del campionato mondiale Supersport. Nella Superpole di ieri i due piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, il francese Lucas Mahias ed il giapponese Hikari Okubo avevano ottenuto rispettivamente il quinto ed il settimo posto. Mahias ha preso il via dalla seconda fila e Okubo dalla terza.
Entrambi scattavano bene allo spegnersi del semaforo rosso, ma un incidente alla prima curva causava l’interruzione della gara con la bandiera rossa. Nuova procedura di partenza e la gara riprendeva dopo alcuni minuti ridotta a 12 dei 19 giri previsti.
Mahias scattava abbastanza bene al secondo via e manteneva la quinta posizione, nel gruppo di testa. Dal quarto giro iniziava la sua scalata alla classifica e nel corso del settimo passava al comando. Una volta in testa Lucas incrementava il suo ritmo e solo Vinales riusciva e tenere la sua ruota. Nel penultimo giro lo spagnolo passava in testa ma nelle ultime curve della gara Mahias riusciva superarlo e a tagliare per primo il traguardo. Un grande successo per il pilota francese, ottenuto proprio davanti al proprio pubblico che lo ha applaudito a lungo!
E’ la prima vittoria per Lucas con una Kawasaki ed è il primo successo di un pilota della casa di Akashi in questo campionato 2019.
Ottima la gara di Okubo. Sesto al termine del primo giro, il pilota giapponese restava per tutta la gara a ridosso dei primi, per poi conquistare la quinta posizione finale.
Nella classifica del campionato Mahias è quarto con 123 punti, seguito in quinta posizione da Okubo con 93
Il prossimo appuntamento con il campionato mondiale Supersport è fissato per il weekend del 11, 12 e 13 ottobre sul circuito San Juan Villicum in Argentina.

Lucas Mahias: “C’erano molte incognite per noi all’inizio della stagione ma io ho lavorato moltissimo per capire questa moto e alla fine sono tornato alla vittoria. E’ bellissimo vincere davanti ai propri connazionali ed è stata una vittoria speciale perché è la prima per me in Francia. E’ stato un weekend perfetto per me e per la mia squadra”.
Hikari Okubo: “Oggi le cose sono andate meglio rispetto ai giorni precedenti. Ho dato il massimo per cercare di salire sul podio. Non ci sono riuscito perché ho avuto un piccolo problema e perché il mio stile di guida attualmente mi consente di entrare nella top five e non di salire sul podio. Io devo fare un altro passo in avanti e deve imparare a controllare meglio la mia moto. Oggi ci sono due Kawasaki sul podio e quindi io mi devo allenare maggiormente e restare ancora più concentrato sui nostro obiettivi. Cercherò di conquistare il podio nelle ultime due gare”.
Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Mahias wins the WorldSSP race at Magny Cours!
Sunny skies and a dry track at the Nevers Magny-Cours circuit in France for the tenth race of the Supersport world championship. In yesterday’s Superpole, the two Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders, Frenchman Lucas Mahias and Japanese Hikari Okubo, scored fifth and seventh place respectively, meaning that Mahias lined up on the second row of the grid and Okubo from the third.
Both gota way well when the lights went out, but an incident at the first turn saw the race brought to a halt with the red flag. The race was soon restarted but shortened from 19 to 12 laps.
Mahias made a fairly good start and held fifth position, part of the leading group. From lap four, he began to move up through the field and on lap seven he took the lead. Once up front, Lucas picked up the pace and only Vinales was able to keep up. On the penultimate lap, the Spaniard moved into the lead but Mahias was able to get back past him through the final corners to cross the line first. A great result for the Frenchman, who relished in the applause of his home crowd!
This is Lucas’ first win aboard a Kawasaki and the first win of the season for the Akashi manufacturer.
Okubo also ran a great race. Sixth by the end of lap one, the Japanese rider remained close to the leading group for the duration of the race, eventually crossing the line in fifth place.
In the championship standings, Mahias lies fourth with 123 points, followed by Okubo, fifth with 93.
The next round of the Supersport world championship will take place over the weekend of 11-13 October at the San Juan Villicum circuit in Argentina.

Lucas Mahias: “There were a lot of questions for us at the beginning of the year but I worked a lot to understand the bike and finally I have come back to the first position. It is very nice to win in front of the people from my own country and it was especially good because this is my first time to win a race in France. It has been a perfect weekend for me, and the team.”
Hikari Okubo: “Today was a better day because I pushed hard and tried to get to the podium. I didn’t this round because I got a new small problem, and my riding style is limited to the top five, not the podium. I need another step from myself and need to do more thinking on my bike and have more control. There were two Kawasakis on the podium today so I need more training, sure, and more thinking. I will try to get a podium in the final two rounds.”
