Mahias quinto e Okubo settimo nella gara WorldSSP di Assen
Giornata fredda ma cielo soleggiato oggi al TT Circuit di Assen in Olanda, dove si è disputata la quarta gara del campionato mondiale Supersport. Nella giornata di ieri i due piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing sono stati perseguitati dalla sfortuna nel corso della Superpole. Lucas Mahias è stato fermato da un problema tecnico, mentre Hikari Okubo è scivolato su una macchia d’olio. Questo non ha impedito ai due di qualificarsi per la gara. Okubo ha ottenuto il quinto posto e oggi ha quindi preso il via dalla seconda fila, mentre Mahias, ottavo in Superpole, è scattato dalla terza fila nella gara che si è disputata sulla distanza di 18 giri.
Mahias scattava bene al via e si portava al sesto posto, mentre Okubo era nono. Nei giri successivi il pilota francese prendeva un buon ritmo che gli permetteva di recuperare ulteriore terreno sino a portarsi nel gruppo di testa. Lucas spingeva al massimo per restare assieme ai primi ed al termine del decimo giro faceva registrare il giro veloce della gara in 1’38”417. Okubo invece doveva rallentare a causa di un problema ai freni e perdeva qualche posizione. La gara si con concludeva con il quinto posto di Mahias ad un secondo dal primo, ed il settimo posto di Okubo.
Un risultato che permette al pilota giapponese di mantenere il quinto posto nella classifica del campionato con 37 punti, mentre Mahias è settimo con 32.
Il prossimo appuntamento con il campionato mondiale Supersport è previsto nel weekend del 10-12 maggio all’autodromo Enzo e Dino Ferrari di Imola in Italia

Lucas Mahias: “Al termine di questa gara ci sono due bilanci, uno positivo ed uno negativo. Sono contento di essere stato molto vicino al gruppo di testa e che il gap nei confronti dei primi sia stato molto ridotto, ma allo stesso tempo sono dispiaciuto perché ho fatto fatica in alcuni punti del tracciato. In uscita dalla curva quattro perdevo terreno e lo dovevo recuperare spingendo forte nei settori tre e quattro. Ho perso un po di terreno in ogni giro ed ho capito che non avrei potuto vincere, ma ho continuato a spingere al massimo nella speranza di salire sul podio. Sono contento perché il mio feeling con la moto è stato molto buono ed il telaio è perfetto. Questo mi rende ottimista per il futuro. Grazie alla mia squadra, perché gara dopo gara migliora costantemente il set up della mia moto”.

Hikari Okubo: “Dopo la partenza il feeling con la moto era buono, ma dopo otto o nove giri ho riscontrato un problema ai freni ed un poco di chattering. Da quel momento in poi non ho più potuto tenere il contatto con il gruppo di testa. Ho cercato di adattare il mio stile di guida, ma non è stato facile farlo in fretta, ma nel finale ho nuovamente trovato un buon ritmo. Senza questi problemi oggi avrei potuto restare nel gruppo di testa. Non avevo mai raccolto punti su questa pista in passato e quindi penso che questo settimo posto sia positivo per me”.

Mahias fifth and Okubo seventh in the WorldSSP race at Assen
Cold but sunny conditions for round four of the Supersport world championship at the Assen TT Circuit in The Netherlands today. Yesterday, the two Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders were plagued by misfortune during Superpole. Lucas Mahias was hindered by a technical problem, while Hikari Okubo crashed on an oil patch. This didn’t prevent the pair from qualifying from the race, Okubo scoring fifth place, so a second row start, and Mahias eighth, translating into a third row start for today’s 18-lap race.
Mahias got away well and moved into sixth, while Okubo was ninth. Over the subsequent laps, the Frenchman got into a good rhythm, making up ground and reaching the leading group. Lucas pushed to the max to stick with the frontrunners and at the end of lap ten, he set the fastest lap of the race, a 1’38”417. Okubo meanwhile had to slow down due to a brake issue, losing several positions as a result. Mahias crossed the line in final fifth position, one second behind the winner, Okubo seventh.
A result that sees the Japanese rider retain fifth place in the championship standings, with 37 points, while Mahias lies seventh with 32.
The next round of the Supersport world championship is set to take place over the weekend of 10-12 May at the Imola Enzo e Dino Ferrari racetrack in Italy.

Lucas Mahias: “The feeling from this race is that one thing is good and one thing not so good. I am happy because I followed the leading group closely and the gap to first position is very small. But I am a little bit disappointed because it is difficult in some places on the track. When I exit turn four, I lose on that sector and then I have to push very hard in the third and fourth sectors to come back. I finished every lap just behind, lap after lap. So I realised that it would be impossible to win, but I continued to push in case I could get onto the podium somehow. I am happy because the feeling on the bike is really great and the chassis is perfect. I got a good feeling back at this race and that is very good for the future. Thanks to the team because race-after-race they improve the set-up.”

Hikari Okubo: “After the start I had a good feeling with my bike but after eight or nine laps I had a problem braking, with some chatter. After that it was not possible to get back to the top group after the chatter appeared. I had to adjust my riding style and it was so difficult to make this adjustment so quickly, but in the last few laps I found a good lap time again. If no problem today it was possible to get to the front group again. I never had a championship point from this track before, so I am thinking positively about my seventh position at Assen.”
