Mahias sul terzo gradino del podio nella gara WorldSSP di Donington!

Si è disputata oggi sul circuito di Donington Park in Inghilterra, l’ottava gara del campionato mondiale Supersport. Nella Superpole di ieri i due piloti del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, Lucas Mahias e Hikari Okubo, avevano ottenuto rispettivamente il secondo ed il settimo posto e quindi oggi hanno preso il via dalla prima e dalla terza fila, nella gara che si è disputata sulla lunghezza di 20 giri, in una giornata soleggiata e fresca.
Mahias partiva velocissimo allo spegnersi del semaforo e si portava in testa alla gara. Con un ritmo impressionante il pilota del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing manteneva la prima posizione sino al quattordicesimo passaggio, quando veniva superato da Cluzel. Due giri dopo, con le gomme ormai usurate Mahias era terzo e manteneva la posizione sino alla bandiera a scacchi conquistando così il suo secondo podio consecutivo dopo il terzo posto di Misano.
Sfortunata la gara di Okubo. Il giapponese partiva bene e nei primi giri si portava in sesta posizione. Nei giri successivi però a causa di problemi di assetto era costretto a diminuire il proprio ritmo e a scivolare in classifica sino al tredicesimo posto finale.
Nella classifica del campionato Mahias è ora quarto con 82 punti, seguito da Okubo con 73. Il prossimo appuntamento con il campionato mondiale Supersport è fissato per il 6, 7 e 8 settembre sulla pista di Portimao in Portogallo.

Lucas Mahias: “E’ stata una gara incredibile nella quale ho spinto molto dal primo all’ultimo giro. Sono molto contento per il mio team e per la Kawasaki, perché siamo saliti sul podio nelle ultime due gare. La mia moto è molto performante nelle curve veloci, ma non lo è altrettanto in accelerazione e quindi a volte non è facile effettuare dei sorpassi. Ma io sono molto fiducioso e penso che la mia squadra riuscirà a migliorare la moto per le prossime gare in modo da permettermi di salire sul primo gradino del podio”.

Hikari Okubo: “Nei primi tre giri il mio feeling con la moto non era male, ma in seguito la moto mi ha dato sensazioni completamente diverse. Ho seriamente pensato di dover rientrare al mio box, perché l’anteriore della mia moto si muoveva molto ed avvertivo del chattering in tutte le curve. Però ho visto che i piloti che mi seguivano erano lontani e quindi ho capito che avrei potuto raccogliere qualche punto per la classifica, che è una cosa molto importante. Se fossi rientrato al box sarei probabilmente sceso al sesto posto in classifica. Dopo la pausa estiva avremo altre tre gare da affrontare e quindi mi terrò costantemente allenato”.

Mahias third on the podium in the WorldSSP race at Donington!

The eighth round of the Supersport world championship has concluded at Donington Park in the UK. During yesterday’s Superpole, the two Kawasaki Puccetti Racing riders, Lucas Mahias and Hikari Okubo, scored second and seventh place respectively, meaning a first and third row start for today’s 20-lap race which took place in cool, sunny conditions.
Mahias made a very fast start when the lights went out, immediately moving into the lead. With impressive pace, the Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider held first place until lap fourteen, when he was passed by Cluzel. Two laps later, his tyres worn out, Mahias was lying third, a position he held to the line to earn his second consecutive podium following his third-place finish at Misano.
Okubo had an unlucky race. The Japanese made a good start and moved up to sixth place during the early stages. Unfortunately though, a set-up problem then forced Okubo to slow his pace, the rider slipping down to final thirteenth position.
In the championship standings, Mahias lies fourth with 82 points, followed by Okubo with 73.
The next Supersport world championship round will take place over the weekend of 6-8 September at the Portimao track in Portugal.

Lucas Mahias: “It was an incredible race and I was pushing a lot from the first to the last lap. I am very happy for my team and Kawasaki because in the last two races we have had two podiums. I think for the moment the bike is very fast in the fast corners but not the same in acceleration, so it is not so easy to overtake sometimes. But I have a lot of confidence in my team to improve the bike for the next race and I hope we can come back in first position.”

Hikari Okubo: “In the first three laps the feeling was not so bad but after three laps the bike had a very different feeling. I was really thinking I would have to come into the pits at one stage because the front of the bike was moving a lot and also chattering in all the corners. But I checked the riders behind and I realised I could take some points, which was important. If I had come into the box maybe I would have dropped to sixth in the championship. We have four races left in the season after the summer break so I will be training more and more.”
