Nasce il Turkish Racing Team, nel World Supersport con il giovane Can Öncü.
La collaborazione tra il Team Puccetti Racing, Kenan Sofuoglu e la Federazione Motociclistica Turca nelle scorse stagioni ha conseguito fantastici risultati, ad iniziare dai titoli mondiali Supersport vinti dallo stesso Sofuoglu, sino alle vittorie ottenute quest’anno nel campionato mondiale Superbike da Toprak Razgatlioglu.
Una sinergia vincente, che proseguirà anche nel 2020 grazie ad un accordo che ha portato alla creazione del Turkish Racing Team, che parteciperà al campionato mondiale Supersport con uno dei più giovani e promettenti piloti del panorama motociclistico internazionale : Can Alexander Öncü.
E’ nato ad Alanya in Turchia il 26 luglio 2003 e le sue prime esperienze internazionali risalgono al 2017, quando ha preso parte all’Asia Talent Cup, ed alla Red Bull Rookies Cup, che Öncü si è poi aggiudicato nel 2018, conquistando 5 vittorie e 10 podi in 12 gare. Nello stesso anno ha partecipato come wild card all’ultimo round del mondiale Moto3 a Valencia, dominando la gara e diventando così il primo pilota turco ad aver vinto una gara del motomondiale nonché il più giovane pilota nella storia del motociclismo a salire sul primo gradino del podio in una gara mondiale (a 15 anni e 115 giorni).
Quest’anno ha partecipato al campionato mondiale Moto3, ottenendo 8 punti.
La squadra nella quale correrà il giovanissimo pilota turco sarà gestita in collaborazione tra il Team Puccetti Racing ed il Team Orelac Racing di Nacho Calero, ed utilizzerà moto Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Manuel Puccetti : “Sono molto contento di poter continuare a collaborare con Kenan Sofuoglu e di avere la possibilità di contribuire alla crescita ed alla maturazione di un altro giovane e talentuoso pilota turco. Dopo aver vinto due titoli mondiali con Sofuoglu ed aver lanciato in Superbike Razgatlioglu, ci dedicheremo al giovane Can Öncü, che ha solo 16 anni ma ha già dimostrato di avere un grande potenziale. Con lui possiamo proseguire il lavoro che abbiamo fatto con Toprak e continuare la collaborazione con Sofuoglu, che ha confermato di credere nella nostra squadra. Lavoreremo per permettere ad Öncü di esprimere tutto il suo talento, senza mettergli pressione. Questo è un progetto a medio termine e quindi nella prossima stagione Can dovrà imparare le piste, conoscere la moto, il suo nuovo team e le gomme Pirelli, che non ha mai utilizzato in precedenza”.
Kenan Sofuoglu: “Abbiamo sempre fortemente creduto nella collaborazione con il team Puccetti Racing ed i risultati conseguiti ci hanno dato ragione. Manuel ha fatto un lavoro incredibile con Toprak e siamo certi che saprà fare altrettanto con Can Öncü, un pilota molto giovane e con un grande talento. Sono stato io a suggerirgli di correre nel mondiale Supersport, perché penso che abbia il potenziale per vincere il titolo nell’arco di due stagioni, grazie all’aiuto che gli potrà fornire il Turkish Racing Team”.
Can Öncü: “Sono davvero felice di avere questa grande opportunità di correre nel Turkish Racing Team nel campionato mondiale Supersport. Il mio ringraziamento va a Kenan Sofuoglu, a Manuel Puccetti, alla Federazione Motociclistica Turca ed allo sponsor Red Bull, che hanno contribuito a realizzare questo progetto. Non vedo l’ora di conoscere la mia nuova squadra e soprattutto la mia moto, in quanto non ho mai guidato una 600. Sarà un esperienza completamente nuova per me, ma sono molto fiducioso perché so che posso contare sull’aiuto e l’esperienza di Sofuoglu, di Puccetti e della mia squadra. Il mio obiettivo è quello di diventare il più giovane pilota a conquistare il titolo mondiale Supersport. Questa prima stagione mi servirà per imparare, per poi dare l’assalto al titolo in quella successiva”.

Introducing the Turkish Racing Team, in World Supersport with youngster Can Öncü
The collaboration between Team Puccetti Racing, Kenan Sofuoglu and the Turkish Motorcycle Federation has led to some fantastic results in recent seasons, starting with the Supersport world titles won by Sofuoglu himself, all the way to the race wins clocked up in this season’s Superbike world championship by Toprak Razgatlioglu.
A winning synergy that will continue again in 2020 thanks to an agreement that has led to the creation of the Turkish Racing Team, which will compete in the Supersport world championship with one of the youngest and most promising riders on the international landscape, Can Öncü.
Born in Alanya, Turkey on 26 July 2003, his first international experience saw him take part in the Asia Talent Cup and the Red Bull Rookies Cup, in 2017. The following year, Öncü won the Rookies Cup, thanks to five race wins and 10 podiums across 12 races. That same year, he competed as a wildcard in the final Moto3 world championship round at Valencia, dominating the race and becoming the first Turkish rider to win a world championship race as well as the youngest rider in history to reach the top step of the podium in a world championship race (at 15 years, 115 days).
This season he took part in the Moto3 world championship, scoring 8 points.
The team with which the young Turk will race next season will be managed in collaboration with Team Puccetti Racing and Nacho Calero’s Team Orelac Racing and will field the Kawasaki ZX-6R.
Manuel Puccetti: “I’m very pleased to be able to continue to collaborate with Kenan Sofuoglu and have the chance to contribute to the development of another young and talented Turkish rider. Having won two world titles with Sofuoglu and having launched Razgatlioglu in Superbike, we now turn our attention to young Can Öncü, who is only 16 but has already shown to have great potential. With him, we can continue the work already done with Toprak and continue to collaborate with Sofuoglu, who has confirmed his believe in our team. We will work to allow Öncü to fully express his talent, without pressuring him. This is a medium-term project and so next season Can will need to learn the tracks, the bike, the new team and the Pirelli tyres, that he’s never used before”.
Kenan Sofuoglu: “We have always strongly believed in the collaboration with team Puccetti Racing and the results have proved us right. Manuel has done an incredible job with Toprak and we’re sure he will be able to do the same with Öncü, a very young and talented rider. It was me who suggested he race in World Supersport, because I think he has the potential to win the title within two seasons, thanks to the support that the Turkish Racing Team can provide”.

I cannot wait to get to know my team, and particularly the bike, as I’ve never ridden a 600. It will be a totally new experience for me, but I’m very confident because I know I can count on the help and experience of Sofuoglu, Puccetti and my team. My aim is to become the youngest rider to ever win the Supersport title. I’ll use this first season to learn, before setting out to fight for the title the following season”.
