Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Mahias vince la gara WorldSSP a Losail !
Ultimo appuntamento stagionale con il Campionato Mondiale Supersport per il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing al Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
Nella Superpole di ieri Lucas Mahias e Hikari Okubo avevano conquistato la seconda fila classificandosi rispettivamente al quinto ed al sesto posto.
Questa sera, in una giornata molto calda, entrambi sono tornati sulla pista araba, illuminata a giorno da un incredibile impianto di illuminazione, per disputare la dodicesima ed ultima gara del campionato.
La gara ha preso il via alle 17,15 ora locale, in anticipo sul programma originario, in quanto le previsioni meteo parlavano della concreta possibilità di pioggia in serata.
Mahias è partito molto velocemente e si è portato subito nelle prime posizioni. Terzo al secondo giro, in quello successivo Lucas passava in seconda posizione. A metà gara circa il pilota francese incrementava il proprio ritmo e si portava in testa alla gara. Una volta al comando Mahias spingeva al massimo ed accumulava un vantaggio che gli consentiva di andare a vincere la sua seconda gara stagionale, dopo quella ottenuta a Magny Cours.
La partenza di Okubo era buona e nei primi giri il giapponese era ottavo in fondo al gruppo di testa. Nei giri successivi purtroppo Hikari non riusciva a trovare un buon passo di gara e transitava in nona posizione sino a due giri dalla fine quando riusciva a recuperare un posto e a chiudere ottavo.
Nella classifica del campionato Mahias conclude al quarto posto con 168 punti , seguito da Okubo, quinti con 105.

Lucas Mahias: “E’ stata una bella gara nella quale ho spinto subito forte puntando alla vittoria. All’inizio è stato difficile e sapevo di avere un ritmo più veloce rispetto a Cluzel, ma è stato difficile superare Perolari. Ho perso molta energia nei primi tre giri anche perché le staccate al limite non fanno parte del mio stile di guida. Quando sono andato in testa ho attuato la strategia di spingere al massimo per non farmi prendere la scia. Mi sono guardato alle spalle e nessuno era così vicino da potermi superare, mentre nel secondo giro ho spinto ancora al massimo ed ho preso un vantaggio di 0,8 secondi, dopo di che ho controllato la gara. Non ho dormito bene la scorsa notte perché non sono stato bene a causa di un problema allo stomaco. Non ho mangiato nulla prima della gara e in queste condizioni e con il caldo se non sei al 100% perdi molti liquidi. Ma alla fine è andato tutto bene ed abbiamo terminato il campionato con una vittoria”.

Hikari Okubo: “E’ stata una gara difficile oggi. Sapevo che questa pista sarebbe stata difficile per me ma ho spinto al massimo. La mia posizione in gara è stata l’ottava, ma so che la mia moto avrebbe meritato un risultato migliore. Il problema è stato il mio stile di guida che si basa troppo sull’anteriore quando devo incrementare il mio ritmo. Nelle curve quando non devo fare delle frenate al limite va tutto bene, ma devo allenarmi per poter essere più competitivo. Grazie a tutti quelli che mi hanno sostenuto in questa stagione”.

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing – Mahias wins the WorldSSP race at Losail!
Kawasaki Puccetti Racing has concluded the final round of the Supersport world championship at the Losail International Circuit in Qatar.
During yesterday’s Superpole, Lucas Mahias and Hikari Okubo had already scored a second-row start, having finished fifth and t respectively.
This evening, in very hot conditions, both were back on the Qatari track under the incredible floodlights, ready the twelfth and final race of the championship.
The race got underway at 17.15 local time, earlier than originally scheduled, with rain forecast later in the evening.
Mahias got away very fast and was immediately up in the leading group. Third by lap two, Lucas moved into second place on the very next lap. At around the mid-race point, the French rider picked up his pace and moved into the lead. Once out front, Mahias pushed to the max and built a lead that allowed him to win his second race of the season following on from that of Magny Cours.
Okubo made a good start, positioning very close to the leading group through the opening stages. Over subsequent laps, Hikari unfortunately struggled to find good race pace and was lying ninth until two laps from the end, when he was able to make up one position to finish eighth.
In the championship standings, Mahias concludes fourth with 168 points, followed by Okubo, fifth with 105.

Lucas Mahias: “A very good race, I was really pushing for the victory. At the beginning it was difficult, as I knew I had better rhythm than Jules but Perolari was very hard to overtake and that took time. I lost a lot of energy for three laps, because braking hard is not my style. When I moved into the lead, I had only one strategy and that was to push so that no other rider could overtake me in the slipstream. I looked back and nobody was coming and then on the next lap I pushed very hard again and built a gap of 0.8 seconds. From there I worked to manage my lead. I did not sleep last night because I am not feeling very well and have a stomach problem. I didn’t eat before the race either, and in the hot conditions, when you are not 100%, you lose a lot of water from your body. But it is OK because we’ve finished the season with a victory.”
Hikari Okubo: “It was very difficult today. I knew that this track would be hard, but I pushed on. Eighth is my final position in the race but I know my bike is better than the position reflects. The problem is my riding style, which is too front-focused when I am pushing hard, so if the front drops I cannot push more. In the corners with little braking I have no problems, so I need to work there to make another step. My thanks go to the entire team for everything they’ve done this season.”
