Mahias conquista il podio nella gara WorldSSP di Misano! Okubo ottimo quinto.

Settima gara del campionato mondiale Supersport per il Kawasaki Puccetti Racing al Misano World Circuit. Nella Superpole di ieri Lucas Mahias ha conquistato la sua prima fantastica pole position da quando corre con il team di Manuel Puccetti e con la Kawasaki ZX-6R. Di conseguenza oggi ha preso il via dalla prima casella della griglia. Una Superpole complicata non ha invece permesso a Hikari Okubo di andare oltre il nono posto, e quindi il pilota giapponese è scattato dalla terza fila, nella gara che si è disputata in una giornata soleggiata e calda, sulla distanza di 19 giri.
Mahias e Okubo scattavano velocemente allo spegnersi del semaforo. Il francese si portava in testa alla gara, mentre il giapponese andava ad occupare il sesto posto. Nel prosieguo della gara Mahias era terzo subito dietro ai primi due, mentre Okubo passava al quinto posto, in coda al gruppo dei primi. Il francese del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing manteneva la terza posizione sino sotto la bandiera a scacchi, chiudendo la gara a 77 millesimi dal secondo posto. Okubo nel finale perdeva leggermente terreno nei confronti dei primi quattro, ma conquistava un brillante quinto posto.
E’ il primo podio del Kawasaki Puccetti Racing in questo campionato 2019 ed è il primo di Mahias con la Kawasaki ZX-6R. Un risultato che ripaga sia il pilota che il team per il grande impegno profuso dall’inizio del campionato.
Nella classifica del campionato Okubo mantiene la quarta posizione con 70 punti, mentre Mahias passa in quinta posizione con 66.
Il prossimo appuntamento con il campionato mondiale Supersport è fissato per il 5, 6 e 7 luglio sul circuito di Donington Park in Inghilterra.

Lucas Mahias: “Questo podio rappresenta per me una grande soddisfazione ed una sensazione incredibile. E’ un terzo posto che ha lo stesso sapore di una vittoria, perché so dall’inizio della stagione che non sarebbe stato facile salire sul podio. Però gara dopo gara ho continuato a lavorare e a dare il massimo. La gara non è stata molto veloce perché i due piloti in testa sembrava giocassero tra di loro, mentre io non stavo affatto giocando. Nel finale i primi due sono stati molto aggressivi e nelle ultime curva ci ho provato, ma non è stato possibile conquistare il secondo posto. Grazie alla Kawasaki ed al mio team. Spero che questo sia per loro un bel regalo, che li ripaghi del grande lavoro svolto. Quando non arrivo davanti io non sono sorridente, ma per questa sera potrò sfoggiare un grande sorriso!”

Hikari Okubo: “La gara odierna è andata abbastanza bene anche perché per la prima volta sono stato sempre nel gruppo di testa. Purtroppo negli ultimi cinque giri la mia gomma anteriore era completamente usurata ed ho perso terreno nei confronti dei piloti che mi precedevano. Ho provato a mantenere inalterato lo svantaggio facendo scivolare la moto nelle curve, ma l’anteriore tendeva a chiudere ed ho concluso al quinto posto. So che come pilota devo fare un ulteriore passo in avanti, ma la gara odierna era molto importante ed ho raccolto molti punti che mi hanno permesso di mantenere la quarta posizione in classifica”.

Mahias scores a podium finish in the WorldSSP race at Misano! Okubo an excellent fifth

Kawasaki Puccetti Racing have completed the seventh round of the Supersport world championship at the Misano World Circuit. During yesterday’s Superpole, Lucas Mahias scored his first pole position since joining Manuel Puccetti’s team, on board the Kawasaki ZX-6R. As a result, he started today’s race from first place on the grid. A complicated Superpole prevented Hikari Okubo from doing better than ninth, and so the Japanese rider started from the third row for the 19-lap race that ran in hot and sunny conditions.
Mahias and Okubo were both fast off the line. The Frenchman moved into the lead, while the Japanese was lying sixth. As the race went on, Mahias positioned third right behind the leading pair, while Okubo moved into fifth place, at the back of the leading group. The French Kawasaki Puccetti Racing rider held third place all the way to the line, crossing it just 0.077 of a second behind the second-placed rider. Okubo lost a little ground in the final stages, but nevertheless achieved a very positive fifth-place finish.
This is the first podium for Kawasaki Puccetti Racing this season and the first for Mahias with the Kawasaki ZX-6R. A result that rewards both rider and team for their great efforts throughout the first part of the season.
Okubo lies in fourth place in the championship standings with 70 points, while Mahias moved into fifth place with 66.
The next round of the Supersport world championship will take place from 5 to 7 July at Donington Park circuit in the UK.

Lucas Mahias: “It is an incredible feeling and an incredible sensation to take this podium finish. For me it feels the same as a victory because at the start of the season I knew it was so difficult to jump on the podium. But race after race, I have continued to push. The race was not very fast because the two riders at the front were playing, but I was not playing. The leaders were very aggressive on the last lap and it was impossible to get to second or first position out of the last corner. Thanks to Kawasaki and to my team, I hope this is a good present for them because they are working a lot. Sometimes I am not smiling when we are not at the front but for tonight, I have a big smile!”

Hikari Okubo: “Today’s race was not so bad because for the first time I could follow the leading group, but in the last five laps I had finished the front tyre. I was losing a little compared to the riders in front. I tried to maintain the small gap to the front group by diving into the corners, so the front started closing and I finished fifth. Also, as a rider I know I need to make one more step, but today’s race was very important. I got more championship points in the race which allowed me to retain fourth place overall in the championship standings.”
